Hi,
I'm looking for the order of battle of the Italian co- belligerent air force. I know that this force got some allied planes, but I don't have much info about it.
How much strong was it? How many squadrons were commissioned?
Thanks in advance
Max

Probably, since I did not copy them from a single page, but had to surf a couple of books to collects bits & pieces.Lupo Solitario wrote:Davide, I believe you have inverted the equipment of Stormi Trasporti and Notturno...and there had been one only Gruppo equipped with Spitfires (the XX, IIRC)

Thanks Davide,
In the meantime I made a brief web search.
51° stormo:
It seems that only the 20° gruppo, 51 Stormo received Sptifire V (As Lupo said), but it had 4 squadriglie (351-353,360).
I don't know anyway what happened to other gruppi of 51° stormo.
5° stormo:
8° gruppo had MC 200 in september 1943, but it was restricted for combat use, and got Mc202 from 21° gruppo. Only then it went under control of 5° stormo.
101 and 102° (5° stormo) had Re 2002, and were put in combat as early as sept. 1943, but by jan. 44 the falling number of a/c led to equip only 102°.
101° maybe got MC 202 (and 205?)?
4° stormo:
9° gruppo was reduced to a cadre status because of lacking of new P-39s before the end of the war. It seems that 12° gruppo was formed by a squadriglia each from 9° and 10° gruppo, resulting in a stormo with 3 gruppi of 2 squd. instead of 2 gruppi with 3 squad. each.
Bombers:
132° gruppo was a SM 79 torpedo unit before armistice, but what about 28°?
Were Z 1007s used as bombers?
Were all 9 Gruppi of fighters in existence at the same time (i.e. in dec. 1944)?
Thanks again
Max
