About how many German troops & divisions were alloted for the Italian Front and what was the average for frontline strength, including AFV's?
Thanks!

At the time of the Italian surrender Sept. 8th and the subsequent landings at Salerno, there were 16 German divisions in Italy, 8 under Rommel in the north and 8 under Kesselring in the south. Some German divisions were still in the Balkans at this time, for this was where they expected the main Allied effort to take place.
By Nov. 1943, there were 25 German divisions in Italy, all under Kesselring. They were organized with the 10th army in the south and the 14th army deployed from Rome and northwards. I don't know the figure for AFVs, but it wasn't very high - tanks being of limited use in mountain warfare and the few armoured units available being held in reserve to check any possible amphibious landings along the west coast of Italy - as indedd happened at Anzio in Jan. 1944 - rather than plugging the front line.
