His first name was most likely Carl.

Greg is correct. Karl (Carl) Leydhecker, born 15 December 1846, died 25 January 1910 was a former Grand Ducal Hessian and then Prussian artillery officer. He retired from FAR 27 on promotion to the rank of Oberstleutnant on 15 February 1890.

Thanks, after german army Leydhecker worked for Krupp in Essen, there he received chilean military commisions to test and to adcquire artillery guns.
He was in 1893 in Chile with Major a.D. Betzhold and General Körner to deliver and test Krupp guns.
