This genuine KM sextant is unique in that it is related directly to a particular U-boat and her commander. It comes from the Nachlass of Oberleutnant zur See Hermann Schulz (1913-1998), captain of U-2327, previously Obersteuermann and navigator of U-255. Schulz removed it from U-2327 before she was scuttled at Hamburg on 2 May 1945. Returning to civilian life after the war, he subsequently made use of it while serving as a deck officer in the West German merchant marine. But in order to do so, he had to "de-Nazyfy" it by filing off the KM logo, the eagle with swastika and the letter M. This is why there is this shiny area on the handle as shown in the photo (not pretty, but is what also makes it special).
The sextant is complete and in good condition overall. with all its essential parts (ocular, mirror, filters and micrometer) present and in working order. It was made by the renowned firm of C. Plath, Hamburg, with the serial number 25555.
Price: Best offer above $ 600.00. Payment by Paypal only.
P.S. As every collector knows, Kriegsmarine and especially U-boat sextants are extremely rare and therefore quite expensive. Here is your chance to get one at a very reasonable price.
