he won the cross of "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" (high french military award) on february 1940 for outstanding service. Therefore he was shooted by a french firing squad on 10 october 1945.

Re: The official AHF France quiz thread
French tank design had a special interest in "breaketrought" tanks. Since Char 2C was obviously both too big and expensive (plus soon-to-be-obsolete), during the 1920s new solutions were tried, resulting in "Char B" program of 1930s.
Question is to identify this 1920s prototype with future "Char B" layout.

Re: The official AHF France quiz thread
Yes, folks - that's a tough one!
(You won't find it in TANKS!)
Hint: this tank is from 1924 program - before "Tractor 30" one, what led to "Char B".
(Usual contenders - Renault, FCM, Schneider...)

Re: The official AHF France quiz thread
Hallo Edge:
Even after your generous tips, not an easy one for sure.
It is a Delaunay Belleville FAMH prototype tank, one of four different ones as you indicate, built in 1924.
One 75mm gun and two machine guns armament.
Photo is from the mailer.fsu website.

Re: The official AHF France quiz thread
So it looks I was telling a lie (it has its entry in TANKS!)
However, this article is full of incorrect data. First, with 17 tonnes in 1924, this was a medium, not light tank. Second, it was buit for state “1924 CHAR DE BATAILLE” contest, not as “private venture for export”
Built by FAMH (FORGES ET ACIERIES DE LA MARINE ET HOMECOURT). My photo source:

I hope that Bill have something less vaguely - over to Georgia!
Btw, Delaunay Belleville has nothing to do with this tank - its entry was somewhat enlarged version of FT-17, not in accordance with 1924 commission requirements. http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/fran ... eville.jpg

Hallo Edge:
I am not competent in French but the photo caption in the Chars-francais site called it that so I did too. I just took the photo from Tanks as it was a different one.
Try this one.

Re: The official AHF France quiz thread
Saw it first yesterday, today already on quiz.
Similar case as my above answer - at first glance, that was a "not for me" issue, then I saw the answer at TV during next weekend (Nat. Geograph - "Apocalypsis"). Something on this "French quiz" give me chill.
Latil Schw. Re: The official AHF France quiz thread
Adopted by the Cavalry as transport for motorised unfantry, this French-made vehicle on photo was actually developed in other country.
1) Identification of the vehicle
2) Its origins
3) Variants (only two)

Lorraine Tatra 28, late 1930's arty tractor.
Only the French could make a Tatra even uglier than normal.

Lorraine 28 – evolution of Tatra 22:Bill Murray wrote:Lorraine Tatra 28, late 1930's arty tractor.

As for variants, two existed: short wheelbase model (personel transport for motorised infantry of RDP units) and longer wheelbase model (cisterne) - not used as arty tractor.
I disagree.Bill Murray wrote: Only the French could make a Tatra even uglier than normal.

Again - over to Georgia!
