French tank design had a special interest in "breaketrought" tanks. Since Char 2C was obviously both too big and expensive (plus soon-to-be-obsolete), during the 1920s new solutions were tried, resulting in "Char B" program of 1930s.

Question is to identify this 1920s prototype with future "Char B" layout.

Hint: this tank is from 1924 program - before "Tractor 30" one, what led to "Char B".

Even after your generous tips, not an easy one for sure.
It is a Delaunay Belleville FAMH prototype tank, one of four different ones as you indicate, built in 1924.
One 75mm gun and two machine guns armament.

So it looks I was telling a lie (it has its entry in TANKS!)

However, this article is full of incorrect data. First, with 17 tonnes in 1924, this was a medium, not light tank. Second, it was buit for state “1924 CHAR DE BATAILLE” contest, not as “private venture for export”

Saw it first yesterday, today already on quiz. Similar case as my above answer - at first glance, that was a "not for me" issue, then I saw the answer at TV during next weekend (Nat. Geograph - "Apocalypsis"). Something on this "French quiz" give me chill.

As for variants, two existed: short wheelbase model (personel transport for motorised infantry of RDP units) and longer wheelbase model (cisterne) - not used as arty tractor.

Only the French could make a Tatra even uglier than normal.
