Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles on rails
Hi,
here an old pic posted first by George (carius) 15th October 2012 and some later 2nd November again in a better quality by Sturm 78. Markus identified it as a Raba Super, but after discovering another Hungarian truck on rails I think that it could be a MAVAG-Mercedes. I know there are different cabins, but the rest seams to fit.
Regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles on rails
Hi Viktor, hi ilfil,
in the book ""Kaelble Lastkraftwagen und Zugmaschinen" by Joachim Wahl and Alexander Luig I could find the exact designation of the tractor on Your pic:
Z 6 W 2A 130 special version . Only two were delivered in July 1940. A tractor, which could be used on rails and on roads. Here a pic of this vehicle during the change of the wheels. It had two different front axes, a rigid front axle for the use on rails and a normal movable front axle for the use on roads. Because of it it had a special prolonged mudguards.
Best regards
Bert

Hi Max,
I´m glad when You are enjoying those pics. Here the last pic of these vehicles out of the book "Kaelble Lastkraftwagen und Zugmaschinen": "Both two-way-tractors in road postion during test drives near to Berlin. Sorry for the bad quality of the copy.
Best regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles on rails
Thanks again, Bert. I'm a little late to this area of study and always very appreciative of these photos of unusual vehicles posted by my mentors that are not available on the internet. I hope you and everyone else here are doing fine during these difficult times.
I'm curious about the registration, which is obviously pre-Wehrmacht. What do you make of it IC, IIC, IIIC?

Hi Max,
thank You for Your warm words. I´m fine, but my father-in-law is dying, but not by Corona, but by a normal influenza.
To Your question: the registration is "III C", the administration district of Backnang, Böblingen and Esslingen, the region around Stuttgart. The company Kaelble was in the town Backnang.
Best regards

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles on rails
Hi,
by chance I could find three more pics of the Panzerkampfwagen III on rails, which I posted 09 July 2017. The vehicle is a so-called Schienenkampfwagen SK 1 (rail tank nr. 1) and was developped by the Austrian company Saurer from November 1942. It was a Panzerkampfwagen III Ausführung N Sd.Kfz. 141/2. The test drives of this prototype began in August 1943 and lasted until autumn 1944.
