What does Miller (Hanks) say at the end, when he's talking to Pvt. Ryan?
I always thought it was 'Ernest'.....

I think he said : "Earn it"
as in... his life.
That's why Ryan said in the end... i lived as good as possible... at least something in the lines.

He says, "Earn this." In other words, Ryan make sure your life is worth the sacrifices made here. That is why Ryan asks his wife if he has been a good man.

That sounds about right, but do you know his first name?

Yes. His name is on the gravestone...
And I think his exact words were : "You... 've... earned... thisssss." And Ken jasper got the meaning right!
