Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
I agree here with Mori. It doesn't feel that good to give away research material for free, only to have people complain about it. We should all be very grateful to Mori for taking his time in helping people get the research material they are looking for.
Personally, I would like to thank Mori for helping me through the years. I would also like to thank all those who have purchased research material and then shared it freely with the community.

Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
Mori and other members are putting a lot of effort in their research and they are helping us a lot with this knowledge they have.
You can not assume that if another guy has information he will give it to you anyway, even if you know eachother for years.
Offcourse it makes things a lot easier if everybody did that but you must understand that if you do your own research it takes a lot of effort, time and money.
A good camera, hotel, travelcosts are just some of the bigger expenses, ofcourse I do understand that not everyone has the same money to spend and that it is easier to first ask for help.
I once did my maths and one evening of work in the archive and travelling to and from cost about 30 euro's and that year i went almost every week, and that was without two camera's i used up that year.
If they want to help they will help you but sometimes they have reasons not to, at this moment I am dealing with a Burn-out/Corona so even if I want to help it is often to much to search my archive even if most of it is digital.

Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
I think I mentioned my philosophy earlier: I believe pooling documents is a more efficient approach. It means only one person invests time / money in copying a given document. On the contrary, the idiot way is many people going to archives and copying the same document (typically, because it's quoted by an historian before).
This minset builds on the obvious fact that the time/money spent on copying archives is a sunk cost. For a researcher, there is no way to recover this cost. Thinking rolls are a coveted 'gold mine' with high monetary value is wrong.
I also believe giving documents for free is a superb way to foster reciprocity. That's how I received many documents, and a lot I would never have thought of. It opened doors, really.
I still see people who are reluctant about sharing, usually with a stream of weak excuses ("my documents are not sorted", "hard drives are in an unlabelled box in the cellar of the house of my ex-wife" etc.). They tend to be older people, in their 60's or older: they are stuck with a 20th century mindset.
I came across one such individual on a French speaking forum last year: the guy was convinced his 2000 rolls were worth more than $200,000 and kept repeating how big his collection was, how many hard drives he needed etc. He often loaded documents on said forum, to get the final point on a discussion ("I have archives, you don't, so I'm right and you're wrong"), but somehow he always omitted to give the roll and frame number...

I can confirm that Mori is always very collaborative and in my many contact with him he never behaved in an uncorrect way. I want to thank him in public for his uniterested help.

Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
Gregori,
Your list doesn't make any sense, at least to me. Can you clarify where the rolls are from, as for example, T78 or T313 or T175. Now they are just random numbers.

Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
Hi! Does anyone have T354, Roll 650 (Dirlewanger Brigade Part I)? I have 651 thanks to a generous contributor, but most of what I'm looking for is in 650. Thanks!

Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
As far as I know, not available digital. No other way but to get it from NARA, whenever they resume operations...

Re: The New 'Free NARA Rolls' List
Hi guys, sorry may be my question will look "stupid", but where can I read a list of Rolls contents?
Just to know which roll should I look for if I need info about a specific regiment, division....
And also, what about Luftwaffe rolls? Is there a list of them too?
