Re: KEW files
What do you mean by "have"?
Are these copies or originals?
If the latter, you should return them to the PRO/National Archives immediately, as they are stolen and will otherwise be lost to other researchers.
Cheers,
Sid

For the other parts, check the National Archives' online catalogue.

Off course it is copies that i have legaly bought from KEW through a researcher.
If that is the kind of responce one gets - please forget I asked

Re: KEW files
Hi kstdk,
I did not say anything about you stealing anything. You gave no indication of how you came into possession of the files.
I was merely asking if they were original.
If they had been original, they would have been stolen, because the National Archives do not dispose of files.
Given that you wished to dispose of them, if they were original, the correct thing would have been to return it to the National Archives.
I am glad to hear that they are copies and that the originals are where they should be.
To reiterate at no point did I think you had stolen anything.
Your offer is generous, so please don't let my post disrupt your intentions.
Cheers,
Sid.

Kurt has parts 2 and 3 and wants to know if anyone has part 1.
He also asks if there are in deed, parts 4,5,6 etc.
You said

You seem to be entertaining the possibility that they are stolen.
I thought - That's not very friendly.
I'm not surprised that Kurt thought so too.
Cheers

Re: KEW files
The title of the files is the label on the digital copy you received, which someone wrote for his/her own research. TNA catalog is more specific, and I would take that as a reference. These files are from Director of Naval Intelligence. ADM 199 is full of files from this source, try your luck.
Have you also asked on ww2talk.com? People are very knowledgeable about Kew documents on that forum.

Re: KEW files
Hello
Thanks all - for your answers. I think we are alright by now, looking at the subject with the same understanding of it.
It is correct that I have bought Part 2 and 3 and that i simply was interested in knowing if there exist other parts of ADM 199-249X - maybe 2461 (part1) and / or 2465 - 2466 etc.etc. I dont seem to be able to find them at the KEW site?
I have bought other documents from KEW, but are mainly interested in The Secret Weapons V1 / V2 and V3
Regards
Kurt

Re: KEW files
Hi Max,
I was "entertaining the possibility that they were stolen".
Theft has been a real problem at the PRO in the past. We have our paperwork searched every time we leave the reading room because of this.
Kstdk did not specify whether they were copies or originals. I was trying to ascertain which.
If they were originals, the correct thing to do is return them to the PRO, as they would be irreplaceable.
I had no reason to think that kstdk had himself stolen anything and did not imply that he had.
You would be wrong to think otherwise.
Cheers,
Sid.

Re: KEW files
I had a very brief (really brief) look at Discovery: ADM 199/2465 is about Dieppe 1942, /2466 about Lorient U-Boat base, etc.
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov. ... r/h/C87982
I could not find any other files then your two with DEILA (Destruction of Enemy Installations in Liberated Areas) on Discovery.

Re: KEW files
My 2 cts, just a feel reading you: it sounds like theft of archives is a personal obsession. Many people have digital copies of documents, they are really common. If you've ever been to TNA (or PRO), you certainly noticed the photo stands and people spending the whole days taking pictures or the documents. Same goes at NARA and other places.Sid Guttridge wrote: ↑17 Jun 2020 17:15Theft has been a real problem at the PRO in the past. Having been at various places, I rate anti-theft security at TNA high, just like NARA. It's good at French sites. It's poor at BAMA Freiburg and in most private archives.

Re: KEW files
Hi Mori,
I am not sure one mention in thousands of posts amounts to an obsession, but it is certainly a concern. This stuff is irreplaceable.
I would rather hope this was a concern for everyone.
Cheers,
Sid.

Re: KEW files
If Kurt is still interested in the "Wunderwaffe" program he might better have considered Kew file WO 208/3155: "V2 Org." about 250 pages long and full of stuff by the people involved. Sorry to be so simple about about, but it is not my interest and just something I noted in case someone was...
And out of interest this is a decrypted radio message from Kew file HW 16/43 (message GPD 4059 transmitted 7 April 1945:
An Rf.SS, für Stab Ogruf KAMMLER, BERLIN. Geheim!
Mein Erscheinen abgelehnt. Abgang des Funkspruchs mit Hstuf. SORGE am Ort besprochen.
Von Chef SS-Führungsstab, I/2, i.V. Dr. HELMKE, SS-Ustuf.

Re: KEW files
Hw 16/43 probably contains over 1000 radio messages. Only a handful refer to Kammler.
