Zeppelin Badges

Post by Zirran » 07 Jun 2020 13:34

Hi folks, i'm interested in the details of these two badges. Were they actually official qualification/award badges or fantasy pieces?

Image

I've seen this piece sold as a "Pilot's Badge"

Image

I've seen this one sold generically as "Airship Badge"

Anyone know the history of these two badges?

Both in my opinion are "Fantersy Pieces" the top one has a most interesting wreath design, the combination is not one would expect. The leaves are in the rong combination and run in the rong ways. But it is extreemly well made. The second is more believable but the wreath is very soft in casting.

It's better to run with all these Zeppelin nazified badges.
As far as I know, Luftwaffe never awarded these badges

IMHO they are both fantasy pieces. Can you post photos of the reverse of both badges, with close ups of the hardware and any makers marks.

Weimar Republic had "Zeppellin Badges" for those who served in WW I, of course without swastika
Nazi Luftwaffe didn't use zeppelins in WW II
