Looking at the Soviet order of battle, for January through May 1945, the headquarters of the 1st Guards Mortar (rocket launchers) Division is shown as stationed in the Moscow Military District.
The subordinate elements of the division appear in support of various forces engaged against the Germans.
Why did the division headquarters remain in the Moscow MD? The headquarters for the other six guards mortar divisions were in the field with their subordinate brigades.
