German female underwear during 1930-1945, what do they look like?

Post by Sebastian_Z » 18 Oct 2021 13:10

Dear all:
This is Sebastian_Z, and I want to know more about female underwear in Germany during 1930-1945. This question does seem lewd, but I am asking so I can do the 3d modeling of the character I created, Erika the Greifkommando volunteer. I read some documents on the website and contact Sandor of the BDMhistory website, I understand that it would be made of cotton, but I do not know what shape or form it would be like. Can anyone share a light on this topic? Thank you.

Sebastian -- Have you tried looking at the advertisements in German-language publications from 1930-1945? You might find them helpful.

Sebastian_Z,

the advertising of fine women's underwear at the time, from the 1930s to the late 1950s, would be characterized by typical ideals of beauty, see the two attached photos.

The advertising from that time is very sought after today, collectors pay the highest prices for rare posters, and also advertising figures.
Auction prices for these old ads have just about exploded in the last 30 years, and will continue to do so...

Whether the young girls of the BDM, and the RADwJ could afford such underwear at all, I would doubt.
There was probably rather simple cotton announced, more probably not...?

The best of luck for your further "researches" ! 8-)

I take the liberty to post a link to a German website for the collectors of the old advertisements ("Alte Reklame"), unfortunately only available in German, but please have a look yourself...

Enjoy the very many photos..! 8-)

Not wearing anything underneath might be an exaggeration, but you are right, most probably a young girl would not be able to afford such luxury as nylon underwear. I probably need to reconsider my choices of clothing, something cotton would be fitting.
Anyway, thank you.

I did some, but it seem it did not show what the normal people could afford and wear. They are mostly nylon underwear.

Another google photo search for "unterwäsche reklame vintage" shows a lot of results:

unterwäsche reklame vintage https://www.google.com/search?q=unterwä ... =759&dpr=1

Not all pictures are "adult", but that is in the nature of things... 8-)

Attached "Doppelmoppel", there is some very funny stuff online!

P.S. In my childhood and teenage years, a "Moppel" was a somewhat overweight lady, often referred to as a "Walküre".

OT:

My beloved grandmother had put on a few pounds in the post-war years of the German economic miracle. (Wirtschaftswunder)

Her husband Hans, who was always up for a joke, liked to refer to her underwear at the time as "sugar sack". (Zuckersack)

A well-intentioned allusion to the plain cotton underwear of the time.
In later years we laughed about it very often when grandpa was long gone from us, fond memories of a very humorous man. :)

You are welcome, my pleasure...

Whether this topic is further expanded here in the forum, that is beyond my personal decision... 8-)

VanillaNuns,

there is a very good saying:
"Es gibt keine dummen Fragen, nur dumme Antworten! / There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers!" 8-)

In this sense a friendly greeting! :milwink:
