Post by DavidFrankenberg » 21 May 2020 17:55

Hello,

i am looking for photos about the Sumner Welles visit to Hitler in Berlin during march 1940.

Sumner Welles was the Roosevelt's envoy for peace. He met Hitler the monday 3rd may 40 during 1h20min. The next day, tuesday morning, he met Hess during 2 hours. The afternoon he met Göring.

Any photos of this official visit ?

I can find none on the web.

Thank you all

Look at Bildarchiv Preussischer Kulturbesitz. There are pictures with Goering and Ribbentrop.

Not Halder! It is Otto Meissner, Chef der Präsidialkanzlei. Upstairs seems Wilhelm Brückner, Chefadjutant Hitler.

Following is Welles opinion of Herr Ribbentrop

"Ribbentrop has a completely closed mind. It struck me as also a very stupid mind. The man is saturated with hate for England, and to the exclusion of any other dominating mental influence. He is clearly without background in international affairs, and he was guilty of a hundred inaccuracies in his presentation of German policy during recent years.

I have rarely seen a man I disliked more."
