Yangzi River gunboats

Post by jerryasher » 04 Jul 2021 01:36

Which gunboat and when was the first to reach Chongqing. My understanding is that SMS VORWARTS, was in Yichang in 1902 but did not proceed further upstream. SMS Otter was commissioned in 1910 and may have made a voyage in that year. In 1914 SMS Otter was above Chongqing and passed with but a brief pause on August 3, 1914, before heading downstream. It was interned at Hankou (Wuhan) and then Nanjing. Details on when Otter or another ship reached Chongqing, and withdrawal and internment of SMS Otter welcomed. Many thanks in advance.

Found that in May 1907 SMS Vaterland reached Chongqing and in 1908 went upstream to Yibin. Does anyone have a good chronology on its descent, Aug 1,1914 till it reached Nanjing? Thank you for your interest and assistance.
