Montgomery's Plan?

Post by Smileshire » 01 Oct 2005 22:58

2nd in command Eric Dorman-Smith was Auchinlek's brilliant staff officer. But Dorman-Smith and Auchinlek were sent on their way when Montgomery and Alexander came in at the behest of Churchill.

The irony is that there would have been no 2nd Alamein or Viscount Montgomery of Alamein had not Smith and Auchinlek stopped the German advance at 1st Alamein.

But Montgomery's 'brilliant' plan for Alamein looks suspiciously like Droman Smith's drawn up plan.

Original or not?
