King's Own Malta Regiment

[Wargames]

I have conflicting information on this regiment's 2nd and 3rd battalions in summer of 1940. Most sources mention only the 1st and 2nd battalion then existed and describe 2nd battalion as only two companies of former boy scouts. Yet then another claims the 2nd battalion was then huge and broken up into two battalions (2nd battalion of 759 men and 3rd of 596 men) on July 5, 1940 (or June 25).

Can anyone clarify?
