German seeking a "Prestige" Victory?

I always wondered why for years the Germans spent years of trying to destroy Leningrad {Petrograd} or Stalingrad {VOlgagrand} instead of try to capture Moscow....was it because they were "Prestige" Victures...Hitler whose aries had conquered...9 counties i Europe was seen to be the "Superios Man" those Military Genius..wwould destroy Cities that bore the anems of Lenin and Stalin.....????

The Germans tried to capture Moscow and it didn't work. After that Moscow was too heavily defended to try that again.
