Balloon Warfare in WW2 – the amazing story of the British free flying balloons - early "Cruise Missiles"? Sent out in large numbers to start forest fires and cause havoc in the German power grid. Almost 100 000 of these were launched and caused considerable damage and confusion. It was called Operation Outward and the balloons were released from Felixstowe on the English south east cost and two other locations. About half of the Outward balloons carried a wire payload to short circuit power lines, the others incendiary devices. My findings compiled in this video.
