i live near the edersee and i am interested in the attack on the dam in may 1943.
As a result, the Edersee was massively upgraded with air defenses and some bunkers.
The destroyed eder dam was repaired in a short time of 4 months by the todt organization.
Does anyone happen to have any documents or photos of it? Many Thanks

Re: Dambuster attack on the Eder Dam (Edertalsperre)
Hi milvz,
I last visited the "Edertalsperre" in the summer of 2015, an impressive building, very impressive.
Edersee https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edersee
Operation Chastise https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Chastise
And of course this destruction was a war crime at the time, but whoever "sows the wind will reap the storm..!"
Unfortunately, on our way across the building there were also two small "shrines" for suicides who had jumped to their deaths from the back of the wall.
Unfortunately very typical for such buildings, something like that leaves you speechless...
Hans
P.S. I am afraid of heights and it was very difficult for me personally to be there.
Just reading the story is actually pointless, you have to see these places yourself, visit them, "feel" what was once possible there.
That takes you away, you have to have been there.

A war crime? I guess you're mocking yourself. And in 1939, Germany's actions in Poland were what they were? Places of execution, mass murders in Piasnica Forest and many others in 1939-45?

the German war crimes are undisputed, and not even the topic here.
But it is also undisputed that the Allied attacks on the German dams were terror attacks on the German civilian population.
At that time, the victims of these attacks were mostly civilians, innocent people, someone here denies that, surely not ?
Read more: https://www.lwl.org/westfaelische-gesch ... um%20Opfer.
Balancing war crimes against each other is completely pointless, all sides involved were guilty, without exception.
And nothing has changed to this day, people don't learn from their history.
Russian attacks on civilian structures in Ukraine repeat all of this, every single day...

Hi,
Here are some pictures showing the Edertalsperre after the "Dambusters" attack on May 17, 1943. The first page shows the damage to the dam and the following pages show the flood damage. The pictures come from one of the albums of a Major.d.Sch. Friedrich Klocke.

'Zerstörungen in Affoldern
