Flamethrowers in 12SS's Rifle Companies in Normandy

Post by AdrianE » 15 Jun 2022 04:54

The Establishment report in Hubert Meyer's divisional history shows 2 flamethrowers in each rifle company on June 1, 1944.
However he does not have an account of them being used. Nor have I read any Allied accounts of them being used against them.

Were they present in Normandy?
Were they used?
If so, were they used by the rifle squads or was there a special team assigned?
Were they trained on how to use them?

I suspect they were held back in company stores and intended to be issued when appropriate but were not actually issued in Normany
