M5A1 Light Tank Combat - 11th Armored - January 1st, 1945

Post by Richard Stone » 04 Mar 2022 17:35

The attached newspaper editorial/article is a first person account by a M5A1 Light Tank commander serving with the 42nd Tank Battalion,11th Armored Division, of the unit’s costly January 1st, 1945 attack during the Ardennes Offensive.

The article is titled, ‘A Toast To Those Who Fought Battle Of The Bulge’. It was printed in the editorial section of 'The Bergen Record', a Northern New Jersey newspaper on January 1st, 1996.

Due to the difficulty of keeping the attachment file size within this website’s 1 mb limit, I’ve copied the article into separate 6 parts. I will post these in two separate sections.

Seems a lot of 'Tigers' were shot in the rear by 37mm!

To Mr. Stone :

Thanks for the excellent article. I cleaned it up a bit, and am attaching it to this post.
To make it easier to read, simply right click on it, select ' Copy Image ', open up ' Microsoft
Paint ', from the top menu bar, select ' Paste ', and then you can zoom in on it and read
it easily.

Paul, thank you for rearranging my attachments to form the complete editorial. Your work makes the attachments much easier to read and will enable researchers to download the entire document.

Once my work schedule slows down, I plan to review your use of the Microsoft Paint to perform this function.
