Any infos on this WH marking???

Hello!

This marking is seen on many, many vehicles of the Wehrmacht. I guse it is the abbreviation for Wehrmacht. Does anyone know more about this marking. When, why introduced, period, area of operation and so on.
Any info appreciated!

Hi Christoph

Many civilain cars were impressed into military service. They often retained there pre-war civilian licence numbers and were marked WH (Wehrmacht Heere) to indicate thier military usage. Alot were used by the Propoganda units, though it looks loike your's belonged to a construction/labour unit.

All army military vehicles had license plates starting with WH denoting Wehrmacht Heer. If a civilian car was pressed into service, the existing plate would be used but the car would be marked as WH plus the tactical symbols added.

Thanks to both of you....

That was what I´ve thought. Interestingly I have several fotos with WH license plates plus the WH marking but this was maybe just they didn´t remove the WH after rweceived the WH license plate.
