Hi,
Here is the company level OOB for March I have made, I'm sure there are errors in it, the main source is the Kriegsgliederung dated 5.3.45.
I would appreciate anyone pointing out errors, especially company names/numbers. Hopefully with everyones knowledge a more detailed and correct OOB can be constructed. I believe that is what this topic is for.

Ernst Barkmann
Tolga Alkan wrote:Yes,this is the very interesting fact,a split battle of Panzer Regiments "Das Reich" and "LSSAH".I only know that battles near Vienna they fought together.Maybe they did it in Kursk,i don't know details.Fedorowicz published a book titled,"Drama Between Budapest and Vienna, The Final Fighting of the 6. Panzer-Armee" by Georg Maier. Its so expensive for me at the moment, $135.I hope to get it:)Wolfkin wrote: Hey Tolga! That is a very interesting quote from Barkmann! I never knew that a Panzerkompanie of Das Reich was with the Leibstandarte during this time! Very interesting! Thanks for posting that information!

Tolga
While corresponding with Ernst Barkmann, he told me about the battle in Hungary, 1945 south of the Plattensee when his Panthers covered Jochen Peiper's retreat to the Vienna Woods. He remembers Peiper as one of the greatest commanders of the Waffen SS and a friend he will never forget. He said he remained a good comrade until the last day of his life. He told me he met J. Peiper again in 1959 during an old comrade meeting at the "Walhalla" in Regensburg, and that was the last time he saw him.
Cheers!

Pg 85 of Zhukov on the Oder by Le Tissier says "On their way [303rd Fus Bttn] they had passed some tanks of the Muchenburg Pz Div in Golzow and a Battalion of *Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler* which ad been sent to reinforce that division, about to take up possitions on the flanks of the [Kustrin] corridor"
This takes place on the night of the 19-20th March 1945
Anybody have any idea which battalion of LSSAH this was?
Cheers

@ Timo,
it's not correct that the
SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Ausbildungs- & Ersatz-Bataillon 1 „LSSAH“
formed the
II./Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment „Müncheberg“
Correct is:
a battalion of the mentioned training & replacement battalion was attached to the Panzer-Division „Müncheberg“
I know it's a little bit complicated
( a battalion of a battalion )
The solution comes with the next post.

Michi,
This is interesting! So, there were up to 4 "Sub-Batallionen" in the Pz.Gren.Ausb.u.Ers.Btl.?
Were these devided into 2 Ausb. and 2 Ers. Btl., or were these mixed formations? Furthermore, as some of these SS-Pz.Gren.A.u.E.Btl. (nice isn't it, all these abbrevations) were used to support the Generalkommandos as well, were all these Batallionen as large as the Leibstandarte-Batallion? For example, was the Nr. 9 also so large?
As a matter of fact, I made a list of all the known (to me) SS-Ersatztruppen. If anyone has more detailed data on the structure of these units, please do tell me!
For example, here's what I have for the french SS-Volunteers:
Franz. SS-Grenadier-Ausbildungs und Ersatz-Batallion (28.8.44 in Greifenberg)
6011a Stab (1.5.43)
6545 dazu: Granatwerfer Ausbildungsstaffel (1.10.42)
6021 1.-4. Ausbildungskompanie je
ohne: 3. Zug, le Gr.W. Trupp
6550 dazu: 3. Zug jedoch mit 2 schw. MG (1.10.42)
6621 Fahrausbildungsschwadron (1.1.43)
5080 Gruppe Führer Stammkompanie (1.5.43)
5080 Gruppe Führer Genesendenkompanie (1.5.43)
(6011a etc. are the KStN-numbers, while (1.5.43) etc. are the dates for these KStN's)
TIA,
Piet
This is interesting! So, there were up to 4 "Sub-Batallionen" in the Pz.Gren.Ausb.u.Ers.Btl.?
Were these devided into 2 Ausb. and 2 Ers. Btl., or were these mixed formations? Furthermore, as some of these SS-Pz.Gren.A.u.E.Btl. (nice isn't it, all these abbrevations) were used to support the Generalkommandos as well, were all these Batallionen as large as the Leibstandarte-Batallion? For example, was the Nr. 9 also so large?
As a matter of fact, I made a list of all the known (to me) SS-Ersatztruppen. If anyone has more detailed data on the structure of these units, please do tell me!
For example, here's what I have for the french SS-Volunteers:
Franz. SS-Grenadier-Ausbildungs und Ersatz-Batallion (28.8.44 in Greifenberg)
6011a Stab (1.5.43)
6545 dazu: Granatwerfer Ausbildungsstaffel (1.10.42)
6021 1.-4. Ausbildungskompanie je
ohne: 3. Zug, le Gr.W. Trupp
6550 dazu: 3. Zug jedoch mit 2 schw. MG (1.10.42)
6621 Fahrausbildungsschwadron (1.1.43)
5080 Gruppe Führer Stammkompanie (1.5.43)
5080 Gruppe Führer Genesendenkompanie (1.5.43)
(6011a etc. are the KStN-numbers, while (1.5.43) etc. are the dates for these KStN's)

a.) The SS-PzGrenAusb & ErsBtl 1 „LSSAH“ was enlarged to keep the manpower for the Waffen-SS.
Manpower is not the correct word, as the soldiers of the I./ & II./ & III./ & IV./SS-PzGrenAusb & ErsBtl 1 „LSSAH“ were some 15 and 16 years old.
b.) The I./ & II./ & III./ & IV./SS-PzGrenAusb- & ErsBtl 1 „LSSAH“ were simple infantry units with 3 infantry coys each.
c.) For the SS-PzGrenAusb & ErsBtl 9 „H“ I don't have any infos.
BUT for the SS-PzGrenAusb & ErsBtl 11 „N“ I have some infos.
30/03/1945: some 800 men in 6 coys
01/04/1945 - 11/04/1945: lost some 600 KIA & WIA
18/04/1945: again a strength of some 400 men.

Do you or anybody else have details about which Pioneer Kompanie was with KG Poetschke and which Pioneer Kompanie and recce platoon with KG Hansen?
Also (slightly off-topic), I wonder if 9. and 12. SS-PzDiv. were organised into Kampfgruppen when they arrived in the Bastogne sector. If so, any details on their composition?
Many thanks in advance,
Andries
Hi Wolfkin,In January 1945 during the fighting to the Southeast of Bastogne KG Poetschke was composed of the I/SS Panzer Regiment 1 with all available Panzer, two battalions of Panzergrenadiers and a Pioneer Kompanie. KG Hansen was composed of SS Panzerjager Abteilung 1, all Panzergrenadier elements not in KG Poetschke, a Reconaissance platoon and a Pioneer Kompanie.
