Guderian's panzers

I recently read that Panzers under the command of Guderian painted a large "G" on the side of their tank to show who they were.

Is this true?

Does anyone have any pictures of this?

Hallo Max,

All vehicles in Guderians Panzergruppe 2, including the Panzers, had a large G on its left hand fender (front and rear) during operation Barbarossa. Hundereds of photos exist to prove this. Panzergruppe 2 was part of Heeresgruppe Mitte (together with Pz.Gr.3))

The Panzer Divisionen of Panzergruppe 2 were:
- XXIV Pz.K. with 3.PD and 4.PD
- XLVI Pz.K. with 10.PD
- XLVII Pz.K. with 17.PD and 18.PD

By the way: Panzergruppe 1 of Ewald von Kleist had a large K on their fenders.

Hello Max!

Here are two photos. Sorry for the bad quality they are not from my collection but from books. As you see also the fender was not always the place of the letter. On the truck it is painted on the window.
