211. Infanterie Division/3/Gren. reg 317/6(?)/pz.gren.reg 66
I am looking for any information on the above division, regiments. I have a carved oak box belonging to a doctor that seemed to have served with all of these. He carved all the places he went during his campaign, but seems they were all in Eastern Europe and the names, apart from KRIM, are un-decypherable! Any help appreciated. Thank you.[/b]

The 211th Inf Div spent 1941 on occupation duties in France before being transferred to Russia in Jan'42. It spent two years under AG Centre involved in the battles at Kursk, Nevel and White Russia. Pulled out of the line in late 1944 it was reformed as a Volksgrenadier unit (Battle group strength only) and involved on the Eastern front again in the souther regions before surrendering in Austria.
The 66th Pz Gren Regt was part of the 13th Panzer Division which fought at Rostov, the Don River, Kerch straights & in Crimea (Krim), moving into the southern Ukraine in 1944 before finishing the war around Austria after fighting through Hungary.
