FEB. X/83

Post by Rossano » 01 Sep 2022 20:13

Hello
I just found in a doc. an officer serving in nov. 42 in the Felders.Btl. X/83/3. Which unit is this ?
Was it an indipendent Btl.(Heerestruppe) or belonged maybe to the 83.ID or what ?
Thanks

FWIW, from Tessin, Volume 6

"Feldersatz-Btl. 83 * 31.3.1941im WK III; wurde auf Grund der Vfg. vom 9.9.1943 (Ausgleichung an die Nr. des Art.Rgts.) umbennant in Felders.Btl.75.
U: 3. Panzer-Div.

"Feldersatz-Btl. 83 * 1.12.1943 für die 100. Jäger-Division; jetzt nach der Nr. des Artillerie-Rgts.
U. 100. Jäger-Division"

83. Infanterie-Division would have had Feldersatz.Btl. 183

Hello

Usually the roman number uits of that kind were raised by Wehrkreise. Do you have any more information? Location, name of the officer etc...

Jbroshot, I too have Tessin and I too know that for the 83.ID it would be FEB.183, but the fact is that just before, that infantry officer was in a Btl. of the 83.ID.......
So Christoph, do You think that this F.E.Btl. 83 came from WK. X ? Was it an indipenfent unit just numbered 83, or if for the 83.ID, why not X/183 ?

In the first half (or at least in 1941/42) of WW2 there seems to have been two different kind of Felders.Btl. The "normal" more or less permanent ones as part of a Division and more temporary formations with replacements beeing sent to the eastern front that, or at least i assume so, were similar to the Marschbtl. and that were also numbered in the same(?) way as the latter units. Sadly I don’t have any more details, just that Fld.Ers.Btl. X/83 wasn't the only unit of its kind.
Ciao
