SSEM File - unusual unit

Post by stoveb » 20 Oct 2021 07:13

Hi,

I am currently researching the 9th Pionier Kompanie, SS-Pz Rgt 1.

Josef Wilhelm, born in 1920 in Remscheid in the Ruhr, was a member of this unit from the beginning as the 3rd Pionier Kp/SS Pi Btl 1 in August 1940 until the very end of the war, surrendering to US forces in May 1945.

Sadly his SSEM file consists of only one page. I am a bit confused as usually a diagonal line (top left to bottom right) usually indicates that the man was either dead, missing in action or released from duty. (A thicker line from top right to bottom left indicates WIA).

What I can read on this stamp is

'Abgabe erfolgte am 3 Aug 1944 an F-SS-F Ungarn'

Does anyone know what this 'F-SS-F' may mean?

Thanks for any help
Cheers
Steve

Hello Steve

That "unit" was a branch of the Hauptfürsorge- und - versorgungsamt-SS (source in docs)

Hi Ignacio,

Thanks very much for that, it narrows down the field a bit.

Bizarre that he appears to have been sent to the F-SS-F in Hungary, presumably as he was too injured to be an active soldier, and yet returns to the unit by May 1945.

Thanks again
Steve
