16 Infanterie Division

Post by Trajanic » 04 Oct 2021 11:47

Hello, reading Niklas Zetterling's Normandy 44, he notes that after losses suffered during Operation Goodwood, on the 23 July 44 remnants of the 16 Luftwaffe Feld Division replenished 21st Pz Div and the rest of the Division was used to forn the 16.Infanterie Division. I have checked on Axis History and Frldgrau the information they have on the 16 Infanterie Division, however, they talk about 16.infanterie (mot) Division 116th Pz Division with no information on the 16 Infanterie Division that Zetterling is talking about. Can anyone help point me to the pertinent information?

Thank you

The new 16.Inf.Div was raised with the 158.Res.Div around La Rochelle in August 1944.

Namely that the infantry, the artillery in majority and the sappers were broken down in the 272 and 346. Inf.Diven, 21.Pz.Div. On the other hand, the support services switched in favor of the 158.Res.Div because of the absence of these in the latter.

Mainly through books, but also on the transition made in 16.Volks.Gr.Div which led it to interact with the 716.Inf.Div from the beginning of October 1944.
Interest in German infantry divisions in Normandy did the rest.
