researching the Feldgendarmerie and Bahnhofswache archives

Post by keorn » 28 May 2020 14:27

Hey guys,
I have been working for some times on an event that took place on September 11, 1942 in my region of northern France. I would like to go to Germany to research the Feldgendarmerie-Abt. 816 that was involved in that specific event. Can anyone direct me to the Bundesarchiv location where I can try to find some archives ? Thanks a lot,
Greg

Greg,

Have you checked the research aids from NARA, especially the one on rear areas and occupied territories (T501). I would start with that. (All guides are there: http://sturmpanzer.com/Default.aspx?tab ... em=1&sec=1)

Then explore Invenio, the Bundesarchiv online catalog. You may be able to spot relevant files.

Based on your findings, you will know which archive to visit.

Bon courage
