Who was head of the SD at 84 Avenue Foch, Paris in May 1944?

Post by SharonS » 11 Feb 2022 20:52

This should be easy to find, but there's so much confusion on the internet that I'm having trouble figuring this out. Wikipedia seems to be leaning toward Hans Josef Kieffer, but I can't find a definitive answer in any of the books I have. Does anyone know for certain? Specifically: if you were going to go to 84 Avenue Foch im May 1944 to talk to the head man, who would it be? Thanks in advance to anyone who might have the answer. This has been driving me crazy!

Kieffer was the head of the office at 84 Avenue Foch, in early 1944 I think until June, 44. His immediate superior was SD-Officer Stindt. So depends who was on duty.

There was also an SD office at 82 Avenue Foch in Paris, that was used by SS/SD-Stubaf Bömelburg ( a former head of the Sicherheitsdienst in Paris) so as Stindt succeeded him in his position he might have most likely used that office like his predecessor.

The original poster above asked "Who was head of the SD..." then mentioned Josef Kieffer who was Sipo - not SD. The subsequent posts all relate to the Sipo in the person of Kieffer and Boemelberg who represented the Gestapo.
The "real" SD (RSHA III) were little represented in France until the end of 1943. Occupied France was regarded as the province of SD-Foreign (RSHA VI) and to a much lesser extent by archival Kommandos from RSHA VII.
Dr Hermann Bickler was Leiter VI, 1941-1944
Dr Andreas Biederbick was Leiter VII.
A Leiter III in the person of Dr Kurt Maulaz was appointed at the end of 1943
