Which government agency/division ran immigration into the Reich?

Post by Dutch and German » 18 Dec 2021 04:45

Hi, so I am really interested on immigration into Nazi Germany, but I do not know who ran the border & managed immigration. It would be greatly appreciated if anybody could provide an answer. Thank you!

If you mean ethnic Germans who immigrated, you could look into VoMi (Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle).

By any chance would there be one for non ethnic Germans, for example Dutch, French, and so on?

I’d say the Reichsministerium des Innern, that had a Reichsamt für deutsche Einwanderung, Rückwanderung und Auswanderung as far as I recall. But I don’t think it was actively encouraged, as the NSDAP statutes wanted immigration to be a thing of the past. Not sure if VoMi promoted it for Aryans, though.

Till 1939 some 500000 people emigrated to Germany.
