How to read captions in German photos?/Help in reading photo captions.

Post by raut » 01 Sep 2021 10:54

Many topics were raised in the open spaces of the forum, but in my opinion there is a topic that will be useful to many.
The Zütterlin typeface was taught from 1915. From 1935 to 1941 it was the main.It is with this font that photographs in the Third Reich are mainly signed.Sometimes it is almost impossible to decipher them.I propose to connect to this topic people who have experience in this. All who are interested are welcome to this topic.I hope it will be interesting and useful to many who would like to learn more about photography in their collection.
Here are some examples of the typeface, this is the key to unraveling the signatures.Image

Good afternoon raut,

The Sütterlin script is still mostly a mystery even for me as a German, unfortunately...

Here are some more helpful links:

P.S. The topic is so very complexe, that it could fill an entire Internet forum.
And there are certainly German-language Internet forums that deal exclusively with this problem.

Last word might be Kintzheim, a commune in Alsace/Elsass.

Friends are glad to welcome you. The second word would rather be Gimbsheim https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimbsheim
I can't make out the first word
Hans1906 - thanks for the helpful links

Perhaps it's a surname: Stumpp

Hiltraut or Armin from Translation help: Breaking the Sound Barrier section of the Forum are the best in reading this stuff, send them PM.

Raut,

#8:
I read it as Vornehmes Leichenbegräbnis....
Vornehm = Distinguished, elegant, posh funeral

Best regards

Vornehmes Leichenbegräbnis in Tagg (?),
alles hat dem Wagen nachgesehen, er
fuhr hier zum ersten Mal wieder
seit 20 Jahren. Sonst nur auf
einem Bauernwagen.

Aug. 42
That is all, I was able to read, sorry for no further help from my side.

Thanks to Armin as well.

Hans
P.S. I would appreciate it, if these photos were scanned in better quality, photographic shots with a cell phone are always not very useful.
