Recruit Special Leave

Post by famtree » 08 Mar 2021 02:39

Karl commenced service 1st Aug 1944
21 Oct 1944 Karl was granted special leave till 19 Nov 1944 on one document and only till 27 Oct 1944 on another, both commencing 22 Oct 1944.
The leave seems to reference a resort at Rhinow and Nature.

Query: Was this sort of leave allowed or normal prior to front line duty? I dont think his family were there

Im assuming his training was in Berlin with Rhinow being located NW of Berlin.
He was captured on the eastern front 2 Feb 1945 - and POW in Bobruisk

Good evening famtree,

Very sure you have already searched the german term "war leave certificate" ("Kriegsurlaubsschein") online, there are hundreds of links and also pictures on this topic:

Sorry for no further help from my side, sorry.

Thanks Hans I have searched and understand that its a paid by Wehrmacht special leave - Our belief is that he went home which makes sense but the application clearly states Rhinow which is the exact opposite direction. I cant find any other reference of service men being given leave to go to a resort unless I have made a serious mistake in translating this (which is possible)
