The attached image is the application for POW compensation:
The first line shows his regiment which I believe is an anti aircraft battery portable?. Im unsure what the bnext two sections - Diengrav and the following one are referencing -

registriert) lediglich Folgendes zu entnehmen:
 3. Batterie leichte Flak-Abteilung 979 gemeldet:
1944

I will be writing to Germany for military history to see where this group were stationed. I know he was only at the front for a short period before being captured by the soviet forces and then spent 5 yrs or so as a POW

I see:

Bobruisk 7168 April - Mai
Torflager Dugolitzka August45 - 11.1.46 (most likely it's Tugolitsa near Bobruisk)
Kamenka Erholungelager bis April (Kamenka is just west of Bobruisk)
Holzkombinat Bobruisk 7168?
Bobruisk 7168 Arbeitslager bis 22.12.46
Minsk 7168/9 ? 22.12.47 ?
Ziegeleilager Minsk Juli 1948

Day of release from custody 21.Juli 1948
--------------------

168, later 7168 were camps administered from Minsk, see here:
