Shooting Award / Certification ? Need Help Identifying

Post by sqnldr » 27 May 2020 14:02

Hi,

Every day is a school day! I have never seen one of these before and came across it in a bundle of paperwork.

Does anyone know what this is? Why it would have been issued or given? My guess is that it is something to do with a shooting recognition?

The hole in the middle....the bullet hole?

A mystery for me! Can anyone help?

The unit might well be the 5. Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 144. That would fit with the missing letters (hole).
Besides that I can only add you are right about it being some sort of shooting award/recognition. It's a "Ringkopfscheibe" shooting target.

Apparently not that uncommon. Here‘s a slightly earlier dated, but identical ring for a different unit.

Ahhh! So it is a bullet hole. That is quite fascinating.

I wonder if anyone else has any more information on these targets . Maybe this proved shooting standard which then got an award? Just a guess.
