Hello,

This is an interesting (from a human point of view) letter from an interesting unit but what makes me sad is that all of these SS-stamps on the letter are bad fakes. They were added by a seller who surely was looking to "upgrade" the value of this letter. The stamps are overdone, too many and just plain ugly as well.

The letter was send by a Fallschirmjäger in Italy and has thus nothing to do, far and wide, with anything SS or Totenkopf.

Where did you buy this purposely wrecked letter?

I got it off of ebay, when I first started collecting a couple of years ago. I regret buying it. This same person is still selling these letters on ebay and lots of people are buying them up and getting ripped off. Can you still translate the letter for me? I'm still curious to what the letter says.

The Feldpostnummer puts him with this unit: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... Btl4-R.htm

Generally the front discusses being transferred to the unit and sent to Italy and toward the end he complains about her not writing to him "for such a long time." If somebody more proficient doesn't come along I should be able to translate most of it.

Also I checked the Vermisstenbildlisten and he's not among them.

Here is my input. I was not able to decipher the "neue …...-Nr. ."
Hiltraut
----------------------------

Oberitalien
am 14. XI. 44

Liebe Gerda!
verbringen durfte. - Nun hat man mich also
zu den berühmten und beim Feinde gefürchteten
Fallschirmjägern gesteckt. Nach einem Lehrgang
spiele ich nun Fährmann auf einem Flusse.
Und wie geht es Dir??

Du hast mir solange nicht mehr geschrieben!
Warum das eigentlich? Daran daß ich Dir
doch immer wieder geschrieben habe, hättest
Du eigentlich merken müssen, daß ich irgend-
wie Interesse an Dir oder zumindesten
an Deinen Briefen gefunden habe.
kannst Du Dir doch sicher vorstellen.
neue .....…-Nr. . Nun sei herzlichst gegrüßt
von D. Freunde Alfred

The text from the letter seems so familiar to me as we did already transcribe it??
About the fake stamps there is nothing to add.
