Lewes was the adjutant of the 5th Battlaion Nottinghamshiore and Derbyshire Regiment.

His grave was photographed by Lt John Warwick Brooke in March 1917 and the image is part of the IWM archives.

You may be able to read his hand writing in the Battalion War Diary. The Adjutant usually maintained the War Diary. The hand writing changes between June and July 1916

The grave was subsequently lost, probably in the 1918 fighting in the same area. Captain Lewes is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial

Thanks for updating--i first saw the picture in martin Middlebroosk first day on the somme years ago
