Sorry
Mark,
Krüger performed as
Franz von Werra:

Werra Franz von Pilot.jpg
On 25 October 1941 Werra took off in Bf 109F-4 Number 7285 on a practice flight. His aircraft suffered engine failure and crashed into the sea north of Vlissingen. Werra was presumed killed, though his body was never found

I saw the picture of Hardy Krüger and the film "Flight of the Phoenix" with Jimmy Stewart came to mind.

Yes, apparently geographically he went the wrong way but it was gripping to watch.

Waleed,
a still shot from the
1944 american movie drama "
Lifeboat". (Director:
Alfred Hitchcock) ?
Wiki (E) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifeboat_(1944_film)
I remember the movie from decades ago late in the night on german TV, last german broadcast not known to me, sorry.
Rated as a true "classic" movie today, but I hardly remember the content...

Okay, another advice for the riddle crew:
A "desert-like" country, almost deserted, invisible enemies...

The movie is about a Soviet tank crew and its struggle with Afghan Mujahideen.
The Beast / Bestie Krieg

Tomorrow I will share a new riddle if I had answered correct.

Robert,
The Beast /
The Beast of War is correct!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beast_(1988_film)
Recognized by the photo, that would be my question ?
Very nasty movie, not recommended at all, but quiet "
watchable"...
Your turn...

Thank you Hans,
yes, recognized by the photo.
The photo with the typical Soviet NBC mask and the scene where the tank crew had poisened the Afghan village had made a lasting impression on me.
As I said tomorrow I will deliver a new riddle.
Best regards
Robert
