ASL Scenario
Title Jungle Proof
Location: Buna New Guinea
Date 24 Nov 1942

Situation , The U S Pacific Command launched Operations to check further Japanese Gains in the Pacific
One Such Operation involved U S Army Elements landing on New Guinea, to take Buna.
Little was known about Japanese dispositions, or conditions on New Guinea.

Board 32: Hexrow A North
Board 32 is divided in 5 Sectors, from North , Clockwise, sectors 1 thru 5
bounded by Roads and Board Edges
Victory: whoever controls more Sectors at Game End Wins
Japanese Player setup First
U S Player move First
Turn 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Elements of IJA ELR 4 SAN 4 setup Board 32/ Pillbox 1-3-5 Crew x 5/ One Pillbox in each Sector
Japanese Player makes a dr to determine the # of Squads per each Sector
and another dr to determine Squad Type dr 1 Elite /? Concealment Counter x 2
2-3 2nd Line /? Concealment Counter x 4
4-6 1st Line/?Concealment Counter x 6

U S Player make a dr to determine # of 666 First Line Squads per sector, each Sector with One MMG
US Player receives 8-1 / 7-0 Leader
Sector Control is determined by which side has more Squads in Sector
Turn One: See Setup # 4 # 6
1. U S Player determines which sectors are in U S Control
2. Only U S Squads with Leader in Sector under U S Control may move
3. U S Player receives flanking Unit 9-2 /8-1 x 2/666x5/MMGx2 , enters on dr less current Turn #
additional dr determines which sector flanking unit enters/ dr of 6 results in unit entering next turn
4. During setup units may not setup Adjacent to opposing units or setup on a Road Hex
5. Japanese Player:
A. Japanese Squads may move freely between Sectors
B. Japanese Player receives 9-0 Leader placed in any sector
c. Japanese Player receives 9-1 Leader 448 x 2 Crew MMG enter any Japanese Turn Sector
D. Japanese Player may send out Motor Patrol: 4 Type 94 Trucks
Squad Type for each Truck dr 1 conscript
2-3 1st Line
4-6 2nd Line
Motor Patrol may enter any Sector and is confined to Roads only
f, all the above may be used only once
Turn One:
1. No Units may setup on Road Hex or Adjacent to Opposing Units
2.Both sides setup concealed /If U S Unit setsup in HIP Japanese Unit Hex/Prep Fire /Defensive Fire/ are TPBF
Rout rule etc all Apply normally
3. U S Player Checks for Sectors in U S Control places 8-1 Leader 7-0 Leader
4. U S Player Check for Flanking Unit Entry
SSR: 1. EC are Moderate with no Wind at Start
2. PTO Dense Jungle /Roads Exist
3. Straying Rules are in effect
4. Stream is shallow
Aftermath: U S Troops unprepared for Jungle Warfare became disorganized in the Fighting. Japanese constant
Patrolling further complicated U S Attempt to locate Main Japanese Positions.

1. Japanese Type 94 Trucks are confined to Roads, Passengers Unload may move freely

Sector Control can quickly Shift when uniots move to attack other sectors

Units on Roads do not count for Sector Control

U S Units on Road Hex may move freely with withjout Leader

1. U S 8-1 / 7-0 Leader once placed on Map , cannot be placed in another sector and must move across the Map from Sector initially placed in

2. U S Flanking Column may enter any sector , regardless of Which side has Control
