Tank Movie

Post by Pips » 10 Jul 2021 00:33

Hoping someone can help.

Many years ago I watched a tank movie, set in Normandy (probably made in the 60's or 70's). The only scene I can remember from it was a couple of German tanks climbing out of a tank ditch/river bed and being shot in the belly by Shermans hiding in bushes. Yeah I know, not a lot of detail. :)

The only tank movie I've been able to find of that vintage is 'The Tanks Are Coming'. It's not that movie.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Thought about "Rommel, der Wüstenfuchs" (E: "The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel") from the year 1951.

Thanks guys, but none of those.
As far as I can remember it's theme was how ineffective the Sherman tank was compared to the heavy German tanks. Which is why I thought it may have been "The tanks are coming", but was not.

I believe the movie was "Imitation General" in 1958 with Glen Ford. The American tanks were M 48s and the German tanks were M 41s. The Americans marked the bridge as "Mined" and the Germans bypassed it in a dry stream bed and exposed their bellies. The M 48s were inside houses. The Armor probably came from the 40th armored Division California National Guard.
