Feldpost Research - Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung

Post by Bunker Underground Media » 24 Jul 2019 13:53

We have recently acquired a collection of Feldpost from a German soldier to his family. The soldier was attached to Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 16 (Armoured Reconnaissance).
There are around 100 Feldpost letters, from early 1942 through to late 1944, using 2 main Feldpost numbers of 57030 and 58361.
Initial research reveals he was located in Poland/Romania/Ukraine and Russia during this time, with the soldier being wounded at least twice (as per letters from a Lazarett/hospital in both 1942 & 1944).
Selected letters for content checking has revealed one particular Feldpost written on 24/6/42 in Belgorod Russia, which was written 4 days before ‘Fall Blau’, the German strategic summer offensive in Southern Russia between 28th June and 24 November 1942.
In this letter it is mentioned that his unit is moving at 04.00 hours the next morning (25/6/42). This is obviously in preparation for the German offensive.
Interesting stuff, but this is just the beginning of researching his story...
More to come,
