A question of the Panzerfaust

Hello,

After scrolling down the Feldgrau forums, I noticed that one guy named Craig built a Panzerfaust.

Does anyone have any directions or books to suggest that I could build one of these with? Does anyone have a good recipe :twisted: ???

I think it would be cool, and i'll be safe.

Can anyone here tell me how to build one?

I can´t remember where but I saw in the net a site where sell several replicas of Panzerfaust 60. The price is 50 $ I think.

Remeber it is a replica and not an origianl so it may not be able to fire. Save your bucks and purchase one off the many militaria sites for around $ 500.00 or so. I own a Panzerschreck 54 which I purchased back in the early 70's. Have had to clear it with the local governmental authorities and reset assured if I had a rocket(s) for this unit I would tell no one. For the Panzerfaust I wouldn't even think of firing an original due to the many years that have gone by for the weapon......fault electrical fittings and the like.

I would rather not purchase a real or a replica.

The problem with purchasing an original is just that, I don't want to ruin something that has a historical importance to me. It would leave me with a guilt. And with a replica, I would appreciate one that fires.

If I can manage to make my own kind of Panzerfaust somewhat similar to the orignal plans, then I shall be quite happy.

By the way I am a part-time private mountain guide, so I know well enough what living dangerously is all about.

How do the RPG's, that are so popular in Afghanistan and Africa, compare to the German Panzerfaust weapon of WWII?

Is the method of firing and propulsion similar? How about maximum effective range and explosive power? They look rather similar to me.

The Russian and Eastern-Bloc made RPG's are outwardly similar to the Panzerfaust, but unlike the single-use-only Panzerfaust, they are reloadable and reusable weapons.

The closest modern weapon to the Panzerfaust seems to be the American single-use-only bazooka.

The Pansarskott m/68 was designed to replace the old pansarskott m/46. Of much more modern design it was clear improvement and must be considered superior to its contemporaries such as the M72 LAW that used a rocket instead of a grenade and had a smaller calibre leading to inferior penetrention and effect behind armor. The m/68 was still easily portable but not telescopic like the M72. It had an effective range of up to 150 meters and 74mm calibre guaranteed penetrention of all APCs of its time and a fighting chanse to take out tanks if fired from the flank in numbers. The range was still limited and the main antitank fire power was in the Grg m/48 of the squad/platoon or the 9 cm recoilless rifle at companylevel. The sight was a bit complicated and took some time training to be effective. A 9 mm subcalibre training weapon was used. Compared to the Pansarskott m/86 or AT-4 it is a very inferior weapon but it was adequate for its day and none had any better.

Thanks for all the information. I thought the RPG was a one shot weapon like the panzerfaust but, apparently, it's fired from a reusable launcher.

If you look at the old combat footage from Somalia and at what's coming out of Afghanistan now, you'd think that every child born in those two countries was presented with an RPG at birth.
