Ruthmann - Gescher Hochmoor

Post by billh35 » 01 Oct 2020 17:16

Can anyone tell me what was produced at the Ruthmann plant at Gescher-Hochmoor between 1935 and the end of the war. The town of Gescher is in the western half of the Regierungsbezirk, Münsterland. It finds itself within the District of Borken, just to the south of Stadtlohn. To the east lies the District of Coesfeld, and the Dutch border can be found to the west.

Their factory shows no history for the period and when you ask, staff simply say that there is no one there with any knowledge of these times. Having said that, the RAF bombed and flattened the factory in 1944.

Since the war the company has specialised in building a range of specialist vehicles.

Hi Bill,

I could only find the information, that there were produced agricultural equipment, hand trucks and handcarts. But I cannot say, in which years.

I am rather sure, that the production was changed during the war.

Hi Bert

That is what they produced before WW2 After the War they started building specialist trucks such as their Hubwagen(later called Cargoloader) but they must have been building something interesting if the RAF took the time to flatten the site in 1944.

Thanks for looking
