P-47D-1-RE ''Miss Plainfield''

Post by Stathis » 20 Feb 2015 23:40

Hello.

I built this P-47 in 1/48, a Tamiya kit. The pilot of this plane was mr. Spiros Pisanos, a Greek who went to USA and flew for the USAF.
He still live today in San Diego. Here you can find some info for him: http://imansolas.freeservers.com/Aces/P ... glish.html
The owner of that web page, mr Mansolas, helped me a lot in this build.
Here are the photos of my P-47.

Very nice P-47 Razorback with very interesting background history. Maybe the most important Allied fighter plane during the critical months of late 1943/early 1944 over Western Europe - P-47 Razorback pilots actually achieved Allied air superiority at the skies of Northwestern Europe before the Normandy invasion and well before the more famous "bubbletobs" P-47 and P-51 D appeared. I think that "Razorback" deserves more historical attention as a decisive air superiority fighter.

The same pilot seems to have flown also P-51 B - underestimated early Mustang which has remained in the shadow of P-51 D. I wonder if someone can recommend a good P-51B kit of 1:72 scale and I wonder if the decals of early 1944 of this same pilot (or someone equally interesting of 8th USAAF) are available for that?

Lovely build quality on the P-47. I have been interested in these custom build planes for a while now, especially the P-47 plane, I decided to buy an R/C model of P-47 so I could first get familiar with the mechanics. I browsed the Internet and found a cool P-47 at http://www.thehobbyworx.com/rc-planes/w ... s-arf.html , Will make some changes and post the pictures soon. So keep an eye on this space.
