an interesting question. Maybe You are right, but it could also be the unit marking of the 168. Infanteriedivision. Here both markings for comparing.

it's really difficult to say which unit it is. I think the cross
on the car looks more like the cross of 168. ID that you show.
168. ID also had this Maltese cross on a green shield.
On the emblem site of the website wwIIdaybyday it looks more
like 36. ID mot.
Comparing all I now think it's the sign of 168. ID.
