Did the Cromwell have the MK 5 6 pounder or the MK 3 6 pounder, because it would seam from the reference below that the later could not fire the APDS rounds, that were so effective against the Later War German tanks ?

Cromwell and the 6 pounder,
Did the Cromwell have the MK 5 6 pounder or the MK 3 6 pounder, because it would seam from the reference below that the later could not fire the APDS rounds, that were so effective against the Later War German tanks ?

A Bigger Question is Did the Cromwell with the 6 pounder serve in NW Europe, its recently been suggested that all the Cromwell's in NW Europe had the 75 mm gun ?

While your reference doesn't show any reference to the APDs round in the table for ammo for the Mark 3, l know of no reason why it couldn't fire the round, as only the barrel was shorter.
It's possible that when the official testing took place they only tested the Mark 5 with the new ammo and didn't retro check the ammo with the Mark 3 gun
