The baseline Potez 540 had V-cylinder engines, as did the Potez 542 variant. The Potez 540 prototype became the Potez 541 after it was re-engined with two Gnome-Rhône 14Kdrs radial engines, and the production derivative of the Potez 541 was called Potez 543.
