Ronald Reagan initiates missile strikes on Cuba to force Fidel Castro to distance himself from USSR

Post by Cantankerous » 01 May 2021 03:24

We know that Ronald Reagan stood up to Fidel Castro's efforts to use his alliance with the USSR to support communist governments and insurgents in Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Grenada, and El Salvador, but what if Reagan had ordered the US Air Force to launch strikes on air and naval bases in Cuba using conventionally armed Minuteman ICBMs and Pershing tactical ballistic missiles, and AGM-86 cruise missiles? It's possible that if those missile strikes had been carried out, then either the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces would have scaled back their military commitments abroad in the developing world, or more than a few FAR officials would have dared to overthrow Fidel Castro.
